Rain, Wind, and Hail on the North Coast Trail!
Just back from a 7-day trip on the North Coast Trail as a pre-season warm-up (cool down?). It was pretty darned wet and chilly. Three of us braved the weather after having our water taxi to the trailhead postponed by a day due to hurricane force winds. The trail was soggy and muddy, and sometimes just downright WET. We saw it all, from crashing waves the size of giant submarines to rain, to sun, to hail. But we made it through all the way to the lighthouse for coffee with Harvey and Todd, the lightkeepers there. The walk out was relatively uneventful. All in all, it was truly AWESOME! Check out our photos here.

Hey Andrew. Don't be in a rush, and be safe. Enjoy the mud, bog, and INCREDIBLE views. We hope you have a great trip.
we are taking two days to drive out from calgary, seven to do the trail, and two days to drive back home, thanks for your information,,,hope to see you on the trail, our next adventure is either kayaking or everest base camp, is it fairly easy to learn ocean kayaking, and if so, what could we expect from an expedition with you? thanks for all your help...

Andrew, it is pretty easy to start ocean kayaking with a guided group. To do a trip in more committed waters or overnight on your own, more than a short paddle around a very protected area, you need to have some knowledge and skill because of the hazards involved. A guided trip takes care of all the safety issues right off the bat. Beyond the safety, we transport you from an arranged location on Vancouver Island, provide the kayaks and gear for kayaking, and the tent. Other than lunches on the travel days where we stop en route, we provide all the meals. We do meet dietary restrictions that we are told about. At the kayak put-in, we give you instruction on what to do-basic kayaking. On the water and onshore, we provide more instruction, interpretation, and history of the area. Beyond that, you have some choice in what we do, within the limits of the guides and the rest of the group. The kayaking trips are completely weather dependent, so a fixed itinerary is not really possible. We work with the groups to meet the challenges they want to have and move them through as safely and fully as possible. Hope that helps. Have a great adventure on the North Coast.
